Doug studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh after growing up in Glasgow. He joined the South East Scotland Emergency Medicine Training Programme in 2007 and in addition to Emergency Medicine training has undertaken an Advanced Training Fellowship in Clinical Toxicology at the National Poisons Information Service.

Doug has a strong interest in Evidence Based Medicine. He has previously worked for a medical statistics company and now runs the Edinburgh Emergency Medicine Journal Club.

A former international rower, Doug lives in Edinburgh with his partner Rebecca and daughter Isla who are extremely understanding of his other loves, ski mountaineering and marathon running.
